This species exists only in Vietnam, in rivers covering an area smaller than the state of Connecticut. Scientists have documented its population shrinking as agricultural runoff and development degrade the rocky, fast-moving streams it needs to survive.

The fish you're looking at were bred here in Eugene, Oregon - not collected from the wild. Building a self-sustaining captive population means fewer reasons to ever pull from a wild population that can't afford the loss.
