Products → your product → Description → click <> (HTML mode)
2. Paste everything below this comment block
3. Update Breeding Status value as status changes
Common values: "Available Now" | "Growing Out - Join the Waitlist"
| "Waitlist Only" | "Not Currently Breeding"

NOTES:
- Described species, but NOT the standard IUCN + FishBase layout this
time. Both are omitted rather than faked - see why below.
- No IUCN block: no independent Red List assessment exists for
"schultzei" under either name. The type material was lost in WWII,
it's been treated as a synonym of C. aeneus (now Osteogaster aenea,
Least Concern) for most of the last 50 years, and its validity is
still unresolved. Citing the aenea assessment under the schultzei
name would misrepresent what's actually been evaluated, so it's
left out rather than forced.
- No FishBase block: same reason - no independent FishBase page for
schultzei turned up; it's folded into the aeneus complex there.
- PlanetCatfish and ScotCat both have real, dedicated pages for
Osteogaster schultzei specifically (ScotCat's even documents the
black strain by name), so those two carry the Resources section
this time instead of IUCN/FishBase.
- IMPORTANT - PLEASE CONFIRM: paragraph 3 is deliberately non-
committal on whether this breeding group was bred/raised in your
fishroom or is the friend's protected line being dispersed. Given
the Snow White mix-up, I didn't want to guess again. Adjust that
paragraph before publishing.
- No CARES listing.
============================================================ -->

<!-- 1. This isn't a wild colour form. It's an aquarium strain: a German hobbyist first produced it around 1989 out of the gold-shoulder schultzei-type cory, and breeders in the Czech Republic took it from there. Every black schultzei in the hobby traces back through that line, this one included. Runs larger than most corys in the shop - two and a half to three inches at full size.

Worth knowing before buying this fish under this name anywhere else: schultzei is a genuine taxonomic mess. Holly described it in 1940, the type specimens were destroyed in WWII, and for the next fifty-odd years it sat as a synonym of Corydoras aeneus with no material left to argue the point either way. Tencatt and colleagues made a case in 2023 that it holds up as its own species, and the 2024 genus revision filed it under the resurrected genus Osteogaster, Lineage 7, pending a proper resolution. Current status: valid but unsettled. Also worth knowing - plenty of vendors sell this exact fish as "Corydoras venezuelanus black." That's a different species from a different country. This one is Peruvian by origin and has no Venezuelan lineage at all, whatever the label says.

This breeding group has been selected hard for depth of black.
